Table 33 (Downtown Dayton)
I met my friend, fellow Celiac , and contributor to glutenfreeohio.com, for a Saturday morning breakfast at Table 33. It took us six weeks to find a date that worked for both of us, and on this very rainy morning the place was quiet and inviting with hot coffee and an ample selection of teas.
We were both giddy with the possibility of having great gluten free food, and neither one of us was disappointed. Christina, our server, was very helpful and patient with all of our questions. The amount of gluten free options on the menu was tremendous, and for the first time since my diagnosis I found myself lost among the menu with endless possibilities.
We decided to go halve-sies. My friend ordered the waffles and I went with the frittata – we intended to split each one to share. I also ordered the blueberry muffin and almond bar to-go for a little breakfast treat the next morning.
The waffle was great. A little heavier than I had anticipated, but that was overshadowed by the great flavor and the mouth-feel of an authentic waffle with no aftertaste. A big win in my book. The frittata? Also quite good. The entire experience at Table 33 was enjoyable and I know I’ll be back*.
The next day I tried the blueberry muffin. Talk about divine. The crumb was perfect, the blueberries plentiful, and the cinnamon sugar crispy cap was over the top. A cup of coffee, and this treat was the perfect beginning to my morning. I then turned my attention to the almond bar. Now, I have to say I am not a big fan of almond flavoring. If you don’t mind it, you might like this bar. In my world this item really lacked anything good. The almond flavor was overpowering and the aftertaste and coating that was left behind in my mouth was almost offensive in my experience.
*I did end up going back! This time I enjoyed the pork tacos made with homemade corn tortillas – it was incredibly delicious. My lunch mate had the bacon breakfast tacos, which were equally delicious!
